Sarah Epstein is an Australian author, illustrator and designer who grew up in suburban Sydney and now lives in Melbourne with her husband, two sons and a rescued dog called Luna. She spent her childhood drawing, daydreaming and cobbling together picture books at the kitchen table. A creative all-rounder, she achieved her design degree from the University of Western Sydney and embarked on a 25-year design career before returning to her first loves of writing and illustrating.
Sarah’s illustration style combines hand-drawn sketches with digital colouring and collage, focusing on bright colours, humour and a sense of fun. Sarah is a SCBWI member, a former admin of the 52-week Illustration Challenge and a current admin of The Illustration Station. Her first book for children, a YA novel called Small Spaces (2018, Walker Books Australia and UK) was shortlisted for the CBCA Book of the Year, the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, the Australian Book Industry Awards, the Readings Young Adult Book Prize, the Aurealis Awards, and longlisted in the Indie Book Awards.
